(MoneyNewsWire.Net, December 16, 2013 ) West Palm Beach, Florida -- The MPO Research Group's new report, 'The The Impact of the Affordable Care Act on the US Health Insurance Market' has brought to light several critical trends in the health insurance market, following the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) earlier in 2013. Most prominently, it found that almost half of the population will be purchasing new insurance policies.
The controversial ACA health insurance online marketplace was launched in October 2013, whereby health insurance customers could compare market rates and plans. Almost as soon as it was launched, it was beset with problems and had to be taken offline, proving to be a huge embarrassment to the government who had worked hard to get it approved.
Earlier projections as to how the new ACA project would affect the market and insurance carriers have now been clouded, thanks to this technological breakdown. This galvanized the MPO Research Group to action their report in order to assist insurers when planning for the future.
Now the challenge is the identification of how consumers will react to the new program over the course of the coming months. All those individuals who participated in the survey were asked whether, if the requisite information was available to them, would they look to buy a new health insurance policy.
The answers provided give the research group data regarding the intentions of the Affordable Care Act's exchanges, without delving into political opinion or the recent technical issues with the website. The data collected has proved to be very useful to insurers.
What it showed is that, should online comparison shopping be available to them, 13% would not be sure whether they would buy a policy, 44% wouldn't shop for a policy, and 36% would choose to buy a plan.
Gender-wise 26 percent of men said that they would probably switch policies, compared to 19 percent of women, while more women said they would consider it as an option. Younger people said they would be more likely to search for new health insurance plans, should the information be made easily available to them, with those aged below thirty very likely to look for a new policy, with the rate dropping as age increases. Over half those aged over sixty said they wouldn't be looking for new insurance at all.
Different ethnic groups also submitted varied results, with 39 percent of Caucasians saying they would likely look to switch to new health insurance policies, with over 50 percent of Hispanics saying that they would do so.
Over 1,300 adults were randomly selected to participate in this research. It took place between October and November this year. A margin of error was given at 2.7%. All the findings are compiled in the MPO Research Group report, which is available to buy via their website.
