Number Of US IPhone 6 Owners Using Apple Pay Continues To Rise.

(MoneyNewsWire.Net, June 11, 2015 ) London, UK -- Mobile payment and digital wallet service Apple Pay is proving popular with iPhone 6 owners in the United States with almost half – 46% - now using it.

That figure is 4% up on the figure using the service two months ago and crucially almost two-thirds – 63% - are now using Apple Pay on a weekly basis, according to findings by Apple Pay Tracker ACG.

With Apple Pay not yet released in the UK or Europe it is hard to gauge whether the payment service will be as popular on this side of the Atlantic. So far a release date for the European and British market is still the stuff of speculation, but there is no reason suppose that iPhone 6 owners over here will not be as enthusiastic about Apple Pay as their American counterparts

A spokesperson for Boom Products, which produces the new Shock-2 protective case line for the iPhone 6 & 6 Plus, commented: "The public like choice. Apple Pay provides them with another option for making payments in a convenient way such as through an iPhone. We can't wait for Apple Pay in the UK and I see no reason why it will not be as popular as in the United States."

Apple Pay can be used for both in store and web-based purchases. For in store purchases the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus uses the installed NFC chip and Touch ID. The NFC chip is not required for app and web-based purchases, just Touch ID.

A survey of 500 iPhone 6 and iPhone users in the United States found that around two-thirds who have used Apple Pay in store are now being drawn towards merchants who accept the service. However, half are still using other payment methods.

One problem admitted among half of American iPhone 6 and iPhone users surveyed was the lack of merchants who accept Apple Pay.

With United Kingdom enjoying markets with a higher penetration of NFC and contactless cards than in the United States it will be interesting to see if British users face the same problems finding retailers who accept the service when Apple Pay arrives in this country.
