(MoneyNewsWire.Net, February 01, 2016 ) United Kingdom, Yorkshire -- Credit card fraud is a very real threat across America, and it is growing. It is becoming easier and easier for thieves to access credit card information from innocent passers – by, without even having to be positioned that close to them.
How do they do this?
Through electromagnetic interference. All modern credit and debit cards contain within them something known as an RFID chip. RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. As the name suggests, this chip is the most important component of the credit card, as it is where all of the confidential personal and financial information relating to the card's owner and accounts is stored. As is also evident from the name, this chip emits signals via radio frequency. These radio frequency signals can be picked up and read by electronic devices such as card machines and ATMs – that's how they work. However, it will be becoming clear now that some individuals do take advantage of this technology, and programme their own electronic devices (for example phones and tablets) to be able to pick up those signals and read the information in them. They do this by matching the frequency of the signal from the card with their own electronic devices, thereby connecting the two signals and gaining access to PIN numbers, security numbers, account details and so on. This can all be done through wallets, pockets, clothes…the victim's card does not even need to be out in the open or in use. Thieves then usually programme that information onto another blank card and use it as their own – only it's not their own money – it's those unsuspecting passers-by who probably aren't yet even aware that they have been the victims of credit card fraud and identity theft!
There is however, a very simple and cost-effective way to prevent this from happening – using RFID Blocking Sleeves. These sleeves are designed to easily slip a credit card inside, and fit securely into wallet slots, pockets, purses etc. without adding any weight or bulk. They are simply made from thin card, but are equipped with a very thin layer of aluminium on the inside – aluminium is one of the only materials that can block incoming signals from the electronic devices used by thieves. No incoming signals will be able to reach the RFID chip, and the signals from the chip itself will not escape outside of the sleeve. RFID Blocking Sleeves therefore keep credit card information safe and secure from thieves.
RFID Blocking Sleeves can be purchased now from Amazon.
